ST. AUGUSTINE. Fla., March 14.-The regular Cardinal team will again be sent against the Jacksonville (Fla.) nine here today. The vets made their first appearance in a regular battle yesterday, and that they have their eyes on the ball the total of 12 hits and a 5-1 victory attests.
The opposition was not strong, but was about as good as that furnished by the kid team of the Athletics, at this stage of the season. Whitted, Snyder, Miller, Wilson and Cather whaled the ball solidly, each getting two safeties.
Dan Griner made his bow, and while he was not extending himself in the least he held the opposition at his mercy. He gave two bases on balls, but was hit safe but once in five Innings.
The Jacksonville bunch found Doak, who finished for the Cards, much more to their liking and rapped his delivery for four safeties in as many innings. The only run came in the seventh inning off Doak’s delivery.
The weather is cold and unseasonable and may make the playing of today’s game somewhat of a hardship.
