Strong In Relief

Willie Doak appeared in the ninth and pitched like a Mathewson. He got rid of McQuillan, Carey and Mowrey with dispatch and precision.

In Doak’s first appearance of the season he set down the side in order, although in a losing cause.  The Cards lost to Pittsburgh 4-1.

The crowd at game time numbered not more than 600. At the end of the second inning the attendance had increased to about 800.
