St. Augustine, Fla.     With a cloud-overcast sky in the morning and the white caps chasing themselves over St. Augustine Bay in the afternoon, Miller Huggins went through with his double-workout today, but the sessions were short and the work light. The morning was fairly warm, despite the absence of sunlight.
In the afternoon the cold wave headed this way began to arrive and the wind blew cold and hard, making severe practice out of the question.

The pitchers have positive orders to lob the ball until the weather gets hot and they have had a chance to limber up their arms.

Unless the weather gets worse there will be another double workout tomorrow.

Sidelights

Manager Huggins had a chance to jump the club this morning and pick up a month’s salary on the side, but he turned the offer down cold. One of the moving picture concerns has a plant over on the island opposite the city and they are specializing on animal melodramas at present. All they wanted Huggins to do was to get into a cage with a couple of lions and rescue the fair heroine or throw a net over one of the lions and capture him. As an alternative they offered to allow him to back out of a cage with the heroine in his arms, while kicking a leopard in the face. Miller says he is no Daniel and will stick to baseball for a living.

One of the Cardinal regulars whose name does not appear on the roster at the hotel is Kirby Samuels. Samuels is several shades too dark to stay at the St. George. He is the veteran trainer of the club and has done the rubbing on the team for years.

Bill Doak was an addition to the training squad today. Doak is here with his wife. He was out in the afternoon and heaved a few slow ones in order to limber up.  Doak says he is feeling fine, and he looks the part.
