Willie Doak, who is widely known around the Pittsburgh district, gave a display of cruelty to Pirates at Forbes Field yesterday, when he refused to allow more than three little hits. The white-washing was witnessed by about 1,000 persons.
Pittsburgh fans had their first opportunity of seeing Bobby Schang and Walter Gerber in action, for Fred Clarke is now working his new shortstop regularly and using Schang behind the bat at frequent intervals.
The lads performed pleasingly well, but what in the world could the Corsairs accomplish in the way of winning a ball game when none of them could solve the delivery of Mr. Doak.

The Cardinal twirler had the pellet under beautiful control all the way and not one local runner advanced beyond the second station – in fact Schang was the only Pirate to get that far around. Just five of them had the satisfaction of scraping their spikes upon the initial sack. This is accounted for by a base on balls, a force-out and those three aforementioned hits.
